# Unified account: one balance for everything

> How Hyperliquid's unified account gives you one USDC balance for prediction markets, perps and spot, and how Hypertake uses it

Source: https://hypertake.net/docs/money/unified-account · Last updated: 2026-10-17

A **unified account** is Hyperliquid's account mode in which one USDC balance pays for everything: outcome shares, perps margin and spot trades. Hypertake always trades from a unified account, so you deposit once and never move money between "spot" and "perps".

In Hyperliquid's words, a unified account has a "single balance for each asset. This balance collateralizes all cross margin positions in that asset and is unified with spot balance in that asset" ([Account abstraction modes](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/trading/account-abstraction-modes)). Hyperliquid recommends it for most users, and its own app has opened new accounts in this mode since February 2026.

**One balance, two kinds of market**

Your wallet (USDC or ETH on Arbitrum One) → Deposit (routed by Relay) → One USDC balance (your Hyperliquid account) → Outcomes and perps (both spend from it)

Money you deposit lands as USDC in your own Hyperliquid account. An outcome buy and a perps position draw on the same dollars.

## What one balance means in practice

- **No transfers between sides.** The USDC that buys Yes shares at 2 pm can back a BTC long at 3 pm. There's no "move to perps" step.
- **Winnings come back to the same place.** A settled outcome pays into the balance, and closing a perp returns its margin and P&L there too.
- **One number to watch.** **Available** is what you can spend right now on either kind of market; the rest is in positions or held by open orders.
- **One withdrawal path.** Free USDC leaves in one wallet signature. See [Withdraw](https://hypertake.net/docs/money/withdraw.md).

## The figures you'll see

| Figure | Where | What it counts |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Account value** (header: **Balance**) | Desktop header and Portfolio; phone Portfolio and Your money | Everything in the account now: USDC, perps with their unrealised P&L, and outcome shares at what selling them would bring |
| **Available** (Available to trade, Cash available) | Desktop header and Portfolio; phone Portfolio | USDC free to open a position or buy shares now: your balance less what open orders hold |
| **In positions** / **In use** | Desktop Portfolio / phone Portfolio | Outcome shares at their sale value, plus margin in perps positions |
| **Free to withdraw** | Withdraw window; phone Your money | USDC that isn't in a position or held by an open order |

_Hypertake reads every figure from Hyperliquid's public API (about every 10 seconds, and live for positions). Nothing is stored or estimated on Hypertake's side._

**Example: Ana's $200 does two jobs**
- Ana deposits 200 USDC. Her Available is $200.
- She buys $50 of Yes on "ETH above 3,000 at 18:00?". Available: $150.
- She opens a BTC long with $100 of margin. Available: $50. Both positions draw on the same balance; she never moved money between them.
- The outcome settles Yes and pays its shares to the same balance, so her Available rises by the payout without any transfer.

Flow: 200 USDC deposited → $50 in Yes shares + $100 perps margin + $50 available → payouts and closed margin return to the same balance

## Hyperliquid's three account modes

| Mode | How it works | Hyperliquid recommends it for | What Hypertake does |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Unified account** | One balance per asset for spot and cross-margin perps | Most users | Uses it as it is |
| **Portfolio margin** | One balance, with HYPE, BTC, USDC and USDT counted together as collateral | Not stated | Treats it as one balance and leaves it as it is |
| **Standard** | Spot and perps balances kept apart; money has to be moved between them | Market makers, high-volume bots, deployers and builders | Switches it to unified when one-tap trading is on (see below) |

_From Hyperliquid's [account abstraction modes](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/trading/account-abstraction-modes) page. Hyperliquid's older "DEX abstraction" mode is discontinued._

## If your account is in standard mode

Older Hyperliquid accounts, and accounts set up by some other apps, may be in **standard** mode. As soon as one-tap trading is on, Hypertake switches a standard account to unified with your trading key: Hyperliquid allows that key to change the account mode, so no wallet window opens and **no money moves**. You'll see a notice: "Your account now uses one balance".

Until that happens (or if the switch fails), USDC sitting in your perps balance can't buy outcomes. The Deposit window then shows an **In perps** line and says "Move perps USDC to spot on Hyperliquid to buy outcomes with it.", and the perps order form offers a **Use one balance** button that retries the switch.

> **Note: Switching back**
> You can change the mode on Hyperliquid itself. If you switch back to standard, Hypertake switches the account to unified again the next time it opens with one-tap trading on, because every screen assumes one balance.

> **Info: A limit for automated traders**
> Hyperliquid limits unified and portfolio-margin accounts to 50,000 user actions per day ([source](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/trading/account-abstraction-modes)). A person trading by hand won't come near it; a bot sharing the same account might.

### Do I need to move money between spot and perps on Hypertake?

No. Hypertake keeps your account in unified mode, so the same USDC pays for outcomes and perps.

### Does Hypertake hold my balance?

No. The balance is in your own Hyperliquid account, under your wallet's address. Hypertake reads it and sends orders you approve. See [Self-custody](https://hypertake.net/docs/security/self-custody.md).

### Will I see the same money in Hyperliquid's own app?

Yes. It's the same account. Hyperliquid's app may show a slightly different account value because it values outcome shares at its own marks, while Hypertake values them at what selling them would bring now. See [Portfolio and activity](https://hypertake.net/docs/money/portfolio-and-activity.md).

### What does "In perps" in the Deposit window mean?

Your account is in standard mode and holds USDC in its perps balance, which can't buy outcomes. Turning on one-tap trading switches the account to unified and solves it.

- [Deposit](https://hypertake.net/docs/money/deposit.md): Add USDC or ETH from Arbitrum, step by step.
- [Turn on one-tap trading](https://hypertake.net/docs/money/turn-on-trading.md): The two signatures, and what each allows.
