# Reading a market

> Every part of a Hypertake market page: question, strike, live chart, Polymarket dots, prices, rules and your position

Source: https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/reading-a-market · Last updated: 2026-10-17

A market's page answers four questions: **what is being asked**, **where the deciding price is now**, **what buying costs and pays**, and **exactly how it settles**. On desktop the market is on the left and ordering on the right; on the phone it's one column with **Yes** and **No** buttons fixed at the bottom.

## The title and the question

At the top: **Markets** to go back, the asset and when the market ends ("Ends in 2h 14m", turning to the warning colour in the last hour), then the title, such as "BTC above $81,000 at 08:00?". An outcome inside a question shows its own name as the title, such as "Draw", with the question under it. Times are in your own time zone.

## The strike and the live chart

A price market's chart always shows the **underlying's price**, not the outcome's: whether BTC is above or below the strike is what decides it. Markets with no price to follow (sports, events) chart the **chance** instead.

- **Headline**: "BTC $81,240 · $240 above the strike". The live price closest to the market's settlement source: the perp's mark price for a mark-settled market, the perp's order book for one settled on trades or candles. A live reading, not the settlement figure.
- **Strike line**: Labelled **Strike $X** (or **Target $X** on a touch market). When you hold the market it reads **Your Yes · Strike $X** in your side's colour, with the winning area tinted.
- **Oracle**: Hyperliquid's oracle price for the perp, beside the headline. Click it to plot it on the chart; the choice is remembered in this browser.
- **Volume**: What the market has traded since it opened, to the dollar, updating with each trade.
- **Ranges**: Desktop: **Live** (the last minute), **1H**, **1D**, **1W**, **1M**, **1Y** for prices; **Live** (5 minutes), **1H**, **1D**, **1W** for chances. Scroll or pinch to zoom from 30 seconds to two years. Phone: **Live** (5 minutes), **1H**, **6H**, **1D**, **1W**, **1M**, **All**.

## Polymarket's 5m and 15m dots

On BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP markets, the chart shows Polymarket's two shortest "Up or Down" markets on the same coin as dots ahead of now: one where the current 5-minute window ends and one for the 15-minute window, each at Polymarket's price to beat and tagged with the likelier direction, such as "5m ↑62%". **What Polymarket thinks** under the chart lists them. Polymarket's rule is Up if the coin's average over the window's last minute (Chainlink) is at or above its price at the start. It's read-only context; nothing is traded there.

## The close

In the last 15 minutes the chart draws the close as an orange line (the phone, as an orange dot ahead). At the deadline the page changes: the ticket closes and the order panel shows **Settling**, with "Heading for Yes" (or No) from the last price and the underlying now against the strike. When the result arrives, the page becomes the market's report. See [How markets settle](https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/settlement.md).

## The Yes and No prices

- **Buy Yes** and **Buy No** each show that side's best ask: what one share costs now.
- Both read "—" when there are no real sellers (the two best asks add up to more than $1.50). On the phone a side reads "—" when its ask is 99.95¢ or more, or its spread is over 30¢.
- While nobody sells, a faded estimate can stand in. You can't buy at it; see [Price is the chance](https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/price-is-the-chance.md).

## If you buy, and the order book

**If you buy** works out what $10, $20, $50 and $100 (or any **Custom** amount) would buy on each side right now, walked through the real offers: the shares, the average price and what they'd pay. Cells read **No sellers**, **Under a share**, or "$X on offer" when the book can't fill the amount. The phone shows $10, $50 and $100 for both sides at once. These figures are before fees (buys carry no Hypertake fee).

The **Order book** lists six price levels each way on desktop (three on the phone, ten with **All levels**), and flashes as orders change and trades happen.

## How it settles

1. **The rule in one sentence:** "Yes if BTC is above $81,000 at 08:00 today. Otherwise No."
2. **What each side pays:** $1.00 a share for the right side; "A share on the wrong side pays $0. Payouts go to your balance automatically."
3. **The timeline:** Trading opened → Closes (your local time and zone, with a countdown) → Settles and pays, with the market's TWAP window.
4. **Facts:** Volume, Last 24 hours and Shares outstanding.
5. **Source:** the market's own settlement source, such as "The 90-second TWAP of the Pyth BTC/USD price".
6. **Rules:** the full text from the market's template.

## Your position

When you hold the market, **Your position** sits right under the chart: your side, "420 shares · bought at 55¢ → 61¢ now", **Value now**, **Profit / loss**, **You paid** and **If Yes wins**, with **Sell Yes** and the take-profit card. **Your trades** lists your orders in this market, with a "You won" or "You lost" banner once nothing is held.
