# Selling shares

> How to sell HIP-4 outcome shares before the close on Hypertake: all or part, fees, no-buyer cases and take profits

Source: https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/selling · Last updated: 2026-10-17

You can **sell your shares any time before a market closes**, to the buyers on Hyperliquid's order book at their current bids. Like a buy, a sell fills immediately or is cancelled. Hypertake charges a **1% fee** on what a sale brings in, and Hyperliquid charges its outcome fee on closing.

## Sell on desktop

1. **Open the sell modal** Press **Sell Yes** (or Sell No) on **Your position** on the market's page, or **Sell** on the position in the **Positions** panel or your Portfolio.
Result: The position's modal opens with **all your shares** chosen.
2. **Choose how many** Keep all, or type a number of shares, use **−** / **+**, the slider, or **All**.
Result: Under the amount: "Sells for $X at Y¢ avg". The summary shows **Average price**, **You receive** and **Profit on these**.
3. **Sell** Selling **all** your shares is one click: **Sell 200 shares · $120.00**. Selling **part** takes two: the first click arms the button ("Click again to sell…") for 4 seconds, the second sends.
Result: A notice: "Sold 200 Yes" with the amount and average price.

## Sell on the phone

1. **Open the sell screen** Tap **Sell 200 Yes** on **Your position** on the market's page, or on the position from your **Portfolio**.
Result: It opens at everything you hold, with the slider at 100%.
2. **Choose how many** Use the keypad or the slider.
Result: **You get** shows the proceeds and **Profit** (or **Loss**) against what you paid, with "Selling at avg X¢".
3. **Tap Sell, then confirm** Tap **Sell 200 Yes · $120.00**, then **Confirm · Sell 200 Yes** within 5 seconds.
Result: **Order filled**: what you sold, the average price, what you paid, your profit or loss, and the amount added to your balance.

## What the sale figures include

> **Warning: Proceeds are shown before fees**
> **You receive** (desktop) and **You get** (phone) are what buyers pay. Hypertake's 1% sell fee and Hyperliquid's outcome fee come out of that, so the amount that reaches your balance is a little lower.

**Example: Leo sells 200 Yes at 60¢**
- Leo bought 200 Yes at 50¢ ($100). Buyers now bid 60¢.
- The ticket shows **You receive $120.00** and **Profit on these +$20.00**.
- Hypertake's fee is 1% of $120: $1.20. Hyperliquid's outcome fee on closing is charged too.
- Leo's balance rises by about $118.80, less Hyperliquid's fee.

Flow: 200 Yes → buyers pay $120.00 → −$1.20 Hypertake fee → −Hyperliquid fee → ≈ $118.80 to Leo's balance

## How the order is placed

At your press, Hypertake reads the live book and walks the bids from the highest, in whole shares. It then sends one immediate-or-cancel sell for that many shares, with a limit 2% below the lowest bid it reached (never under 0.1¢). Shares that can't sell at or above that limit are not sold and stay in your position. On the phone, bids at 0.05¢ or less are ignored.

## A take profit is cancelled first

A resting [take profit](https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/take-profit.md) holds your shares on the book. To sell them now, Hypertake first cancels any take profit on that side, then sends the sale. You don't need to cancel it yourself.

> **Warning: If the sale then fails, the take profit stays off**
> If the sell doesn't go through after the take profit was cancelled (no buyers in time, a network error), the take profit is **not** placed again. Check your position and set a new one if you still want it.

## When you can't sell, or can't sell it all

| Desktop says | Phone says | What it means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| No one is buying Yes right now. | No one is buying Yes right now | There are no bids on your side. You can wait for buyers, set a take profit, or hold to settlement. |
| Only 120 shares can sell right now; there are no more bids. | Buyers take 120 now | The bids run out before all your shares are sold. Sell fewer, or sell what you can. |
| Orders must be worth at least $1. | Orders start at $1 | The sale would bring in less than $1, Hyperliquid's minimum. |
| — | Size moves the price to X¢ | Your sale reaches bids more than 1¢ below the best one. |
| Settling | Awaiting result | The market has closed. Selling has stopped and your shares will settle. |

> **Note**
> Selling into a thin book can cost you: each extra share sells at a lower bid. The ticket shows your average price before you press, so check it against the best bid.

### Can I sell after the market closes?

No. From the deadline on, Hypertake takes no orders; your shares settle at the result, at $1 or $0 each (or the settle fraction). See [Payouts](https://hypertake.net/docs/outcomes/payouts.md).

### Why is selling 1% but buying free?

Hypertake's fee is charged on outcome sales only, including a take profit that fills. Holding to settlement carries no Hypertake fee. See [Fees](https://hypertake.net/docs/fees.md).

### Can I place a limit sell at my own price?

Yes: that's a take profit. It rests on Hyperliquid's book until a buyer pays your price.

### I sold, but my balance went up by less than the ticket said. Why?

The ticket's proceeds are before Hypertake's 1% fee and Hyperliquid's outcome fee.
