# Builder fee approval

> What a Hyperliquid builder fee is, the 1% maximum you approve for Hypertake, the rates actually charged, and how to check or revoke it

Source: https://hypertake.net/docs/security/builder-fee · Last updated: 2026-10-17

A **builder fee** is a fee Hyperliquid lets an interface add to the orders it sends for you, up to a maximum you approve once with your wallet. You approve Hypertake for a **1% maximum**; Hypertake then charges **0% on outcome buys, 1% on outcome sells and 0.1% on perps orders**, and Hyperliquid collects it at the fill.

## What Hyperliquid says about builder fees

From Hyperliquid's [Builder codes](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/trading/builder-codes) page:

- "Builder codes allow builders to receive a fee on fills that they send on behalf of a user. They are set per-order for maximal flexibility. The user must approve a maximum builder fee for each builder, and can revoke permissions at any time."
- "Builder fees charged can be at most 0.1% on perps and 1% on spot." They "do not apply to the buying side of spot trades but apply to both sides of perp trades."
- The approval "must be signed by the user's main wallet, not an agent/API wallet", and "each user can have a maximum of 10 active builder code approvals at a time."

Builder codes are processed on-chain as part of Hyperliquid's fee logic. Hypertake never receives your money directly: Hyperliquid charges the fee at the fill and credits it to Hypertake's builder address.

## What Hypertake actually charges

| Order | Fee on the order | Rate | Charged on |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Outcome buy | None | 0% | Nothing |
| Outcome sell, including a take profit that fills | `f: 1000` | 1% | The sale's value |
| Perps order: open, close, take profit or stop loss | `f: 100` | 0.1% | The order's value |
| Perps on testnet | None | 0% | Nothing |

_`f` is the fee in tenths of a basis point, as Hyperliquid's API writes it: 1000 = 1%, 100 = 0.1%. Hyperliquid's own trading fees are separate; see [Fees](https://hypertake.net/docs/fees.md)._

The maximum you approve is 1% because that's the highest rate Hypertake uses (outcome sells). It's a ceiling, not the rate on every order: perps orders carry 0.1%, which is also Hyperliquid's cap for perps.

> **Note: Approval is required even if you only buy**
> Hypertake doesn't place any mainnet order until your account has approved its fee, so turning on one-tap trading asks for it first. Outcome buys still carry no fee.

If Hyperliquid ever refuses an outcome order because of the builder fee, that order fails, and Hypertake lowers its outcome fee to 0.1% for the rest of your visit rather than send orders without one.

**Example: Lena's fees on one day**
- Lena buys $50 of Yes on an outcome. Builder fee: $0.
- Later she sells those shares for $64. Builder fee: 1% = $0.64.
- She opens a $2,000 BTC long and closes it at $2,100. Builder fee: 0.1% of each order = $2.00 + $2.10 = $4.10.
- Hyperliquid's own trading fees are charged on top of these.

Flow: Lena's order → Hyperliquid fills it → the builder fee is taken from the fill → credited to Hypertake's builder address

## Check your approval yourself

Hyperliquid's public API answers how much you've approved for any builder. You don't need Hypertake or a wallet to ask.

**Your approved maximum for Hypertake**

```bash
curl -s https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/info \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"type":"maxBuilderFee","user":"0xYOUR_ADDRESS","builder":"0x0b8f0884e0816fee3fb297ad9707c46f1fc13d1d"}'
```

The answer is a number in tenths of a basis point: `1000` means you've approved 1%, `0` means you haven't approved Hypertake. Hypertake reads the same value before it sends an order.

> **Tip: Every fill Hypertake earned on is public**
> Hyperliquid publishes each builder's fills daily at `https://stats-data.hyperliquid.xyz/Mainnet/builder_fills/0x0b8f0884e0816fee3fb297ad9707c46f1fc13d1d/YYYYMMDD.csv.lz4` (LZ4-compressed CSV; the address must be lowercase).

## Revoking it

Hypertake has no screen to revoke or lower its builder fee approval. Hyperliquid's documentation says a user "can revoke permissions at any time". In Hyperliquid's API, a builder's maximum is set by the `ApproveBuilderFee` action (its `maxFeeRate` is a percent string), signed by your main wallet ([Exchange endpoint](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/for-developers/api/exchange-endpoint)); revoking is done through Hyperliquid, not Hypertake. These docs don't describe where another interface puts that control.

Once your approval is below Hypertake's fee, Hypertake refuses to send orders ("Turn on one-tap trading to approve Hypertake's fee first: trading here needs it."), and turning one-tap trading on asks you to approve it again. An approval left in place costs nothing on its own: the fee is only charged on orders that name Hypertake's builder address, which only Hypertake sends.
